Carmel, Ind., October 13, 2011 –Ingersoll Rand (NYSE: IR), a world leader in creating and sustaining safe, comfortable and efficient environments, announced today the combined efforts of Schlage, Trane and Verizon in launching the new Home Monitoring and Control service. The service puts technology in the hands of homeowners and creates a “connected home,” empowering them to manage their homes from anywhere.
The new Verizon service provides homeowners with digital conveniences and remote access to their homes, courtesy of Schlage, America’s most trusted brand for security1, and Trane, the manufacturer of the country’s most reliable heating and air conditioning systems. Both businesses deliver increased safety, comfort and efficiency, and help bring a superior connected home experience to homeowners through Verizon’s Home Monitoring and Control service. The new service offers homeowners the ability to:
-
Remotely access, control and monitor various aspects of their homes via a smartphone, PC, FiOS TV® and eventually, via a connected tablet
-
Enter their homes easily through Schlage® door locks
-
Manage the interior comfort of their homes via a Trane® thermostat control
-
Manipulate other home appliances, including lighting, from anywhere
-
View their energy usage in near real time
“We are proud to work with Verizon in the launch of its new Home Monitoring and Control service, which ultimately, will change the way people live in their homes. It not only keeps homeowners comfortable and secure, it helps them to manage their lives better and save energy, too,” said John Evans, president, Residential Security Solutions at Ingersoll Rand.
The Connected Home Delivered
The Verizon Home Monitoring and Control offers three package options, the first of which includes a home monitoring kit so that customers can remotely turn on and off lights and peer through networked cameras. The second package includes an energy control kit,
featuring energy-monitoring devices like the Trane thermostat control and special adapters that control appliances, plus a sensor placed on the circuit box to measure whole-house electricity use. A third option includes the home monitoring and control kit, featuring both home and energy monitoring equipment. There are additional devices, such as wireless door locks from Schlage that allow homeowners to grant access to their homes, advanced cameras that can pan and tilt or be installed outdoors, plus window and door sensors that pair with light modules, allowing the light to turn on when you open the door.
In addition to working with Ingersoll Rand businesses Trane and Schlage, Verizon is working with other hardware providers to deliver the connected home, including ActionTec, Aeon Labs, SerComm, and application provider Motorola Mobility/4Home.
