- Company pledges to reduce its energy intensity by 25% or more in ten years
- Consistent with Ingersoll Rand's business mission and commitment to sustainable business practices across its global operations
Swords, Ireland, December 3, 2009 - Ingersoll-Rand plc (NYSE:IR), a leader in creating and sustaining safe, comfortable and efficient environments, today announced that it has voluntarily pledged to reduce the company's energy intensity by 25% over the next ten years. The pledge is part of the Save Energy Now national initiative sponsored by the Industrial Technologies Program within the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The program, which focuses on on-site energy reductions in the industrial sector, including in manufacturing and industrial operations, buildings and non-manufacturing facilities, provides participants access to selected DOE resources to improve industrial energy system performance and facilitate project implementation.
The company publicly proclaimed its pledge as part of a special ceremony held yesterday on Capitol Hill. The ceremony included representatives from more than 30 companies who signed the voluntary pledge, including John Conover, Ingersoll Rand senior vice president, president of Ingersoll Rand's Security Technologies Sector, and leader of the company's sustainability strategy council.
"Our pledge in support of the Save Energy Now program is consistent with the aggressive targets we have established for our global operations," said Conover. "We are pleased to make a public commitment in support of the DOE's national initiative and look forward to achieving the energy-reduction goals expected of Ingersoll Rand as a Save Energy Now Leader.
"Also, our support for this initiative fits our global business mission, including a commitment to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals through a portfolio of products, services and solutions that make buildings more environmentally friendly; reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and material waste; and incorporate sustainable materials.
