Ingersoll Rand Endorses Rebuilding America Campaign

Nov 19, 2009
  • Campaign calls for a national strategy to retrofit homes and business facilities to save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs

  • Consistent with Ingersoll Rand's business mission and commitment to sustainable business practices across its global operations

Swords, Ireland, November 19, 2009-Ingersoll-Rand plc (NYSE:IR), a leader in creating and sustaining safe, comfortable and efficient environments, today announced that it has endorsed Rebuilding America, a national campaign calling for energy-efficiency retrofits of 50 million commercial and residential buildings by 2020 to save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create thousands of jobs over the next decade. The campaign, a coalition of businesses, labor groups and nongovernmental organizations, was announced today in Washington, D.C., as a joint initiative of the Center for American Progress Action Fund and the Energy Future Coalition.

According to Rebuilding America, retrofitting 50 million homes and small businesses will require a total of $500 billion in public and private investment and support approximately 625,000 sustained full-time jobs directly and indirectly each year throughout the decade, while saving consumers $32 billion to $64 billion on their energy bills each year for an estimated energy savings of $685 billion through 2020. The campaign seeks to mobilize major public and private institutions to promote energy-efficiency investment, provide financing and facilitate access to certified contractors, while also encouraging high performance standards and verifiable energy savings across the retrofit industry.

"We are pleased to support a comprehensive effort that will lead to so many beneficial outcomes for the environment, for job creation, and the national economy," said John Conover, senior vice president, president of Ingersoll Rand's Security Technologies Sector, and leader of the company's sustainability strategy council. "At the same time, the Rebuilding America campaign will lead to healthier, more productive and more energy-efficient buildings, which will provide long-term benefits for building owners, occupants and residents."

The Rebuilding America campaign has been endorsed by more than 50 organizations in the fields of finance, manufacturing, labor and energy advocacy.
