IR to Demo System at Card Tech Securtech Show in New Orleans CardTech/SecurTech 2002 booth #1629
HAMILTON, Bermuda, April 22, 2002--Building on
its tradition for delivering innovative solutions to the security and safety marketplace, Ingersoll-Rand (NYSE: IR), a leading diversified industrial firm, today announced that its Recognition Systems Inc.
business unit has developed the first biometric hand geometry reader to fully integrate facial recognition technology directly into the unit, creating a powerful dual biometric product. Combined with an ID card or badge, the unit provides unparalleled convenience for
three-factor authentication of face, hand and card.
IR will be demonstrating its advanced dual biometric security solution at this week's Card Tech Securtech Conference and Exhibition, April 23-25 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. IR's demo
will be located at booth #1629.
"By adding the benefits of facial recognition technology to the proven capabilities of IR's biometric handreader, we have created the most advanced biometrics-based security solution in the marketplace," said Martin Huddart, general manager of Recognition Systems Inc., the biometrics unit of IR's Security and Safety sector. "This new, integrated system is ideal for applications such as 'Trusted Traveler' programs that require the advantages of three-factor authentication while providing a fast and intuitive user experience."
The Israeli government is currently installing similar technology to manage a new border crossing control system. After extensive testing, the Israeli government determined the combination of IR's
handreader, along with face technology, best fit the security, convenience and efficiency requirements of its high-volume application.
IR's new dual face/hand recognition biometric verification system is minimally intrusive while being exceptionally convenient, as the system can verify a person's identification in less than five seconds.
The system - which occupies less than one square foot of space - operates by first reading an ID card, next scanning a person's face and then examining more than 90 measurements of the size and shape of a person's hand. Data from these two integrated biometric devices are checked against a central database. The data can also be stored on the ID card itself.
For more than 10 years, IR's Recognition Systems Inc. unit has been the worldwide leader in biometric handreader technology. IR's biometric security solutions are used to protect some of the world's
leading high-security, high-volume environments, including more than 95 percent of the nation's nuclear power plants, as well as leading scientific laboratories, federal prisons, U.S. military bases, seaport cargo facilities and government buildings.
IR's biometric security solutions are also used at a growing number of commercial airports. At San Francisco International Airport, more than 180 of IR's patented biometrics hand readers are used to
verify the identities of the 18,000 employees who require access to the tarmac every day. Salt Lake City International Airport recently installed an IR biometric handreader to control access to the
airport's Operation Center.
Through its Security and Safety sector, IR offers a broad selection of the industry's best known hardware products, innovative software systems, and advanced access control solutions, such as Schlage locks, Von Duprin exit devices, Locknetics electronic locking
systems, and Recognition Systems Inc. (RSI) biometric verification handreaders.
